WinMedStat was founded in 1988 by Thomas Riggs
after 15 years experience in engineering, sales
and marketing positions for two major
corporations. Seeing the need for good and
affordable practice management software for the
physicians’ office, he began reselling the
MedStat Practice Management system for Graystar
Enterprises. In 1991, WinMedStat purchased the
rights to the DOS based MedStat system from
Graystar Enterprises and hired programmers to
continue development of MedStat
MedStat has always been a user driven
system. New features, enhancements, and improvements
have been continuously implemented using suggestions from the physicians offices. Some of the new features included appointment scheduling, electronic claims,
a powerful letter generator and the addition of over 130 reports. In addition to having excellent practice management software, WinMedStat also built a reputation for excellent support after the sale.
WinMedStat was the second vendor in the state of Texas to transmit electronic claims using the National Standard Format (NSF). As result of working closely with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, WinMedStat was selected as the first vendor and beta test site for development of the
Texas Health Information Network
(THIN). THIN is a Texas based non-profit electronic claims clearinghouse that was the first to offer commercial electronic claims for no charge to the physician office. A MedStat physician was the first doctor to send commercial claims to THIN.
In 1998, WinMedStat recognized that everything was going to windows, and announced the release of its new product, WinMedStat. WinMedStat formed a partnership with Microsoft as an ISV. WinMedStat utilizes all Microsoft products, Microsoft Visual Basic, Microsoft NT Server, Microsoft SQL Server and integrates with Office 97 and 2000 (Word, Excel, Access).
